Prerana Women's Health Initiative brings diagnostics, medical care and health education to women in need. Services include basic antenatal care, reproductive health services, family planning, and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV services.The Prerana Reproductive Health Clinic is open 6 days a week for walk-ins and Prerana also offers free transportation to women attending from rural villages. In addition, Prerana Women's Health Initiative holds regular cervical cancer screenings, pregnancy camps and health outreach and education programs serving more than 156 rural villages of Mysore Taluk in the south Indian state of Karnataka.
During 2007/2008 Prerana Women's Health Initiative:
Provided reproductive health services to 3,400 women during 2007.
Conducted 2,834 pelvic exams.
Carried out 14,700 diagnostic tests to screen for reproductive tract infections.
Provided medication for 1,700 women for treatment of reproductive tract infections.
Distributed 200,000 iron supplements and multivitamins.
Provided free transportation to the clinic for more than 1,000 women.
Referred more than 250 women for advanced diagnostic and treatment services at reduced rates negotiated for Prerana Project patients.
